Language Specialists - Training and Development

We want people to build long-term careers with SIS. So if you have the initiative, we have plenty of opportunities for you to learn and take on new challenges. When you first arrive, you'll join our other new recruits on an induction programme which will give you a briefing on the Service as well as IT training. Further opportunities to attend career development training courses will then occur throughout your time with us. In particular you may well be asked to enhance your language skills by deepening your knowledge of one or more secondary languages, or quite possibly learning a new one to meet the rapidly-changing global agenda.

You will spend an initial six months developing the required skills to act as a dedicated linguist.  Subject to operational requirements, you can then expect to work in your main language for at least two to three years, or in some cases much longer.  Subsequently, there will be opportunities to work with other languages, develop management and operational skills, and in some cases gain experience of work in other parts of the Service.
