Experienced Analyst
£31,820-£35,000
Based in London
The Background
It's our task at SIS to collect secret intelligence for overseas to help protect the UK against a range of threats from terrorism to regional instability. The security of this intelligence is of vital importance, which is what makes this role so rewarding. Working with a team of analysts in our Security Operations Centre, you'll help ensure the integrity of the SIS IT systems, monitoring their technical security as well as identifying and responding swiftly to security incidents.
The Role
It's a challenging and varied role. During a typical day, you will be called upon to diagnose and resolve a number of possible IT security incidents. These range from ensuring network traffic matches defined policy, to large and complex IT investigations. In addition, it will be up to you to mentor and advise on procedures and technologies, as well as working closely with third line support sections with whom you will escalate unresolved anomalies.
The role isn't just about following set processes and plans. It will also be part of your remit to devise and update incident plans and security procedures to make our IT even more secure. In addition, you'll continually explore emerging technologies and techniques, assessing any security implications they may have for our systems. This, coupled with our commitment to learning and development, and the unique nature of the work make this a great place to develop your career.
What You'll Need
To join us, you'll need extensive experience in internet security or networking. You should have at least one of the following:
- SIFA Plus Information Security (FNSCTY) - Level 4
- Information Security Certification (CISSIP or GIAC)
- a good knowledge of IT networking (to CCNA or CCNP level)
- Systems administration accreditation (MCTS, MCITP, RHCT, RHCE or equivalent)
This is a role that calls for strong coaching and mentoring skills. As you'll be liaising closely with people at all levels throughout the organisation, sometimes in stressful situations, you'll also need strong communication skills and a diplomatic yet firm approach. Finally, if you're familiar with government Information Security procedures and CESG standards, it would be very useful - however, this is not essential.
Closing date for applications is 19th March 2010.
