The Background
It's our task at SIS to collect secret intelligence for overseas to help protect the UK against a range of threats from terrorism to regional instability. The security of this intelligence is of vital importance, which is what makes this role in our Security Operations Centre so rewarding. Working at the heart of a busy team, you will help monitor the technical security of the SIS systems - as well as identifying and responding swiftly to security incidents.
The Role
During a typical day, you will be called upon to diagnose and resolve a number of possible IT security incidents. These range from ensuring network traffic matches defined policy, to large and complex IT investigations. The role isn't just about following set processes and plans. It will also be part of your remit to devise and update plans and procedures to make our security even more effective.
You'll be learning all the time - not least because exploring emerging technologies and techniques and assessing any security implications they may have for our systems will be an important part of the role. In addition, you'll be surrounded by a highly experienced and supportive team. This, coupled with our commitment to training, and the unique nature of the work make this a great place to develop.
What You'll Need
To join us, you'll need to be a graduate in a relevant field, such as Information Security, IT, Engineering or a science subject. You'll also need a strong interest in IT and a desire to learn about new technologies.
It's a very interactive role where you'll work with people across the Service - sometimes in stressful situations - so strong communication skills and a diplomatic approach are also essential.
In addition, it would be very useful - though not essential - if you have any of the following:
- SIFA Plus Information Security (FNSCTY) - Level 4
- Information Security Certification (CISSIP or GIAC)
- a good knowledge of IT networking (to CCNA or CCNP level)
- Systems administration accreditation (MCTS, MCITP, RHCT, RHCE or equivalent)
Closing date for applications is 19th March 2010.
